In Auburn, Maine, an old barn stood in a field appearing desolate and delapitated. Except it wasn't. It was actually a city, a city named Bramblesville. It was home to a small, yet hungry, population of animals. In this city, there lived two dogs named Ginger and Horton. Ginger and Horton were left behind, along with half of the population, by their owners. The owners also left some kibble for the animals in case they got hungry. They had lived with the greedy Hank, a pot bellied pig, who was a secret food hoarder. His hoarding had begun quite a while ago except the animals didn't think he would go too far but, of course, he did. There were no berries for the birds, no worms for the shrews, and Hank even stole the chickens' eggs! What he didn't eat he hid which made all the animals irratated. In the town, the news had spread all the way out to the old barn where Horton and Ginger live. Since they had heard so many complaints about Hank, the food hoarder, they decided to go to the town to find out if it was really true. First, they met with Horton's best friend Jackson, the chicken.
" Hello Jackson!" Horton said happily.
" Hello Horton! What a pleasure it is to see you!" Jackson clucked.
Then Ginger bluntly interrupted and asked," Have you heard the rumors about Hank hoarding animal's food?"
" The Rumers are true," Jackson said sadly, " he has stolen my wife's eggs 13 times!"
" I am so sorry! Has that happened to anybody else?" Said Horton.
" Yes, you should go talk to Dawn, the red tailed deer, about Hank," replied Jackson.
Off they went. They headed down to the edge of the woods to find Dawn. Once they found her, Ginger said," Hello Dawn, I am Ginger and this is Horton. We have heard that Hank has stolen food from you. Is that true?"
Dawn replied by saying, " Yes. That little theif has stolen all the berries in the woods! Can you believe that?"
Horton said," Yes, actually I can. Do you know where Hank is living right now?"
Dawn then said, " Hank is by the dam. "
Ginger and Horton said, " Thanks!"m
And off they went, down to find Hank.
Ginger and Horton were beginning their journey to find Hank but on their way they came to an area that was completely blocked by bramble. As they split up to find another way around it Ginger met their friend Rocco, the Raccoon.
" Hello Rocco!" Do you know another way for Horton and I to get around the bramble?" Ginger asked.
Rocco replied by saying, " Yes, I do but where is Horton?"
Ginger said," He went looking for another way around it. Don't worry, he is going to met me back at the old oak tree!"
Rocco said, " Great!"
So Ginger and Rocco walked back just in time to meet Horton.
"Great to see you Rocoo! Do you know a way around?" asked Horton.
Rocco replied by saying " Good to see you too! And to get around we have to climb the old oak and hang glide over to the other side. You guys aren't scared of heights, are you?"
Horton and Ginger both said, " No way!"
Rocoo said, " Great!!!!! Now let's get started. "
They climbed up an oak tree, got the hang gliders and sailed to the other side.
As Ginger and Horton rounded the corner, they came face to face with Hank and his team of ferocious moose. The moose were pawing the ground with their hooves viciously. Dust was flying everywhere.
Horton saw Hank and growled, " You are stealing the berries and you are stealing the eggs. Why would you steal from people who haven't done one thing to you? You are a hoarder and you should be ashamed!"
Hank replied as if nothing was happening around him and said, " The only problem Horton, is that I do not feel ashamed."
Then Hank raised his hoof and stomped it as hard as possible. All of a sudden the moose grabbed Horton and started to grab Ginger but they missed. Ginger sneered and said," Is that all you got?" However, the moose rammed into her and she passed out so I guess it wasn't all they had. Hank and his team of moose, carrying Horton and Ginger, rushed back to his cave.
When Ginger awoke with a headache she saw that she and Horton were put in cages. Horton was growling, barking, and shouting insultive comments about Hank to the moose guards. Suddenly Hank walked in and asked"Are you feeling alright my dear? "
Ginger growled and retorted back saying," First, I am not your dear and second I would be fine if your team of moose didn't ram into me."
Hank said dismisively," well, let's get back to business. First, what were you doing in these parts of the woods and secondly, why were you looking for me?"
Horton said, " You are hoarding all the food and we wanted to tell you every one in town is starving."
Hank said," I will come back later to talk some more when you are in a better mood."
And with that Hank left. Ginger and Horton were left in complete silence.
As soon as there eyes adjusted to the darkness, Horton started barking again and Ginger's dizziness put her to sleep. Finally seeing no point in talking anymore Horton fell asleep. Not soon after that, sunlight trickled through the cracks in the cave and woke both Horton and Ginger up.
Horton, with sleep glazed eyes and a horse voice, growled through his teeth and said ," Are you kidding me? This is insane! Hank obviously doesn't have this kind or authority."
Then Horton looked over at Ginger and his clenched teeth suddenly dropped into a sad smile. When Ginger saw this she tried to smile but the pain in her eyes made her appearance look more painful than before.
Horton asked sadley," what's wrong? Did hank do something to you while I was sleeping because if he did I am going to attack him."
Ginger replied by saying," No! Are you crazy? Just my headache is killing me! Well not literally but it hurts a lot!"
Horton said," Where is Hank I need to-"
Just like that Hank walked right through the doors.
" Are you ready to tell me why you were here?" Hank said with a mocking voice.
Horton replied by saying," Yes, well I know I am anyways." Horton looked over at Ginger who agreed by nodding her head as to say," what do you think I came to do?"
Hank said," let me start of by asking why you two were both in my woods?"
Ginger growled and said," you hoarder! You theif! You are the reason that half of our population is starving! You are steeling eggs from chickens and that is unforgivable! Even when we were young and played you were the one who would hide all my toys. You have gone far before but no one though you would turn into the beast you are today!"
A sad look appeard on hanks face. He then said," so it is true that people are raving because of my habit. I am so sorry I didn't know that it would turn out this way. Is there anyway you can forgive me?"
Horton spoke this time and said," Yes,there is one thing you could do"
It wad evening by the time Horton, Ginger, and Hank finally got to the outskirts of town.
"Are you ready?" Horton asked Hank
Hank looked a little nervous but nodded his head.
" lets go," Ginger said anxiously.
Then they walked into town and the animals yelled and screamed at Hank but when they saw what Hank had the yelling turned into smiles and cries of joy. Hank, with the help from Horton and Ginger, had brought back all of the food he had hoarded. Hank started passing out food and all the animals had a wonderful dinner. Horton and Ginger, once all the food was gone, led Hank up a narrow path. When Hank saw what was at the end of the trail he squeald and ran up to the top of it. It was his barn and his true home. He wanted to stay there forever and that's how Hank, Ginger, and Horton ended up living happily ever after.
